i was getting my exhaust done on my riv and it looked like their was a muffler right after the cat in addition to the 2 at the back of the car. it this a third muffler or somethin else? and if so, can i replace it as well?

i have a 1997 Buick Riviera with a supercharged 3.8L V6 i have 1000 dollars to put into the car what combination of parts would be best to get the best power and fuel mileage out of it?
