    Gas smell coming from outside of car please help?

    Have a 2000 Nissan Xterra and we have recently have been smelling a very strong gas smell coming from outside the car. It is so bad that we have to roll the windows up. No apparent leak is noticed but we did for a short period of time have the check engine light come on but haven't seen it...
