    I imagine it probably averages it if you drive right. But I can get 55mpg in my TDI Jetta and it looks a heck of a lot better than the Prius. Cost less as well.

    How much is 'lots of miles'? I would not bother with either and look at the BMW 335d. Go for a year old one.
