I just asked this question at the symbian foundation website's Blog and i asked them to come to this thread and answer. I basically asked if we can put the new os on to our phones and if not or "it depends on Nokia" we will 100% sure turn to a hacker to put the OS on to our phones.

You can customize the duration of the flashing but not the speed of flashing or color etc. Keypad lock works two ways, Menu ->function key or Menu -> * key.
