My stereo/radio won't turn on. It's plugged in, the red light is on, but none of the buttons work. I've had it for 2 years. What's wrong with it?

after a valve job replaced 2 out of 16, i reinstalled the head. new belt, gaskets. there is a clacking sound(lawn mower over graval or spoon in a garbage disposal) heard thru the throttle. its rpm dependant and not heard at idle, the higher the rpm the worse the sound.

He is sick and want to put him out of his misery. But how do I do that?
