I am new at all this painting stuff so I have the paint for the room but I want to lighten the same paint for the ceiling. I don't want to mix too much or too little. Thanks for any advice!

I picked it up at a garage sale but it had no instructions. I know it is probably the simplest thing cause there is only one plug with a little pump on the other end. But I can't figure it out..Grrrrr! I would attach a photo of it but I don't know how to do that either. Thank You!
