is there any tips or pointers you could tell me? like hill, lane switching...etc?

I don't have a car. I live in a fairly flat, bicycle friendly community. I am slightly overweight. I want something low maintenance, reliable, not incredibly expensive and kind of "cool." Any suggestions?
