Either the switch that turns on the electric fan is not working or the fan motor itself is bad. Try turning on the ac and that should make at least one of the 2 fans come on. Or you could turn off the engine at a light and avoid idling. Better yet get it fixed.

I think I may need a new alternator. I have the battery on a charger right now so I am not sure yet whether it is the battery or the alternator that is giving me trouble but the alternator looks like it is difficult to get to. Any ideas of the cost of this job for labor? Or if I could do it myself?

Take it back to whoever did the alignment. They should have adjusted it [without taking off the steering wheel] as part of the alignment process.
