May be you need to declare the variable $login, unless '$login' itself is the prompt. Probably: $login = 'username'; $t = new Net::Telnet (Timeout => 10,Prompt => $login); And then, note $login is not inside single quote ('$login').

A php class may contain useful functions that you can use to your script. You don't have to write the functions anymore as it is already in the class.
