Time to upgrade and not sure which one is better? Is Palm fading away? Are the apps ok?

My son is 11. He has a tendency to pout and get mad when he does not get his way. My husband and I do correct his behavior and he listens. I realize this is a difficult age for him. He does not swear, use violence, or talk back. I would just like some feedback on some other experiences.
