    for college financial aid is it better to have debt or eliminate it?

    I own a home and have roughly $100,000 mortgage. I also have another property but have no mortgage but I have rental income coming in. How does that affect my son's college financial aid in 2 years? Should I sell the property and pay off the mortgage and have no debt, or keep it?
