Make sure you have a reciever hitch that can handle the weight and drive carefully. Do not accelerate hard and ditto on the trannie cooler. I have a 4.2L V6 F-150 and I would even be a little worried to pull that much.

I BELIEVE that they are only in the front since they are *mostly* FWD cars, but they could also be in the rear as well. It depends on the occurance of this "knocking" sound. If it is every once and a while I.E when you hit a bump or turn, it could be, but they are usually tied in pretty stiff...
