I bought a petrol mountain kit, it's been a drama from the start but now it's 99.5% complete & I am completely stuck. Is there anyone in Adelaide who can sort it out...?

Ive just bought a 26" 18 speed mountain bike, its a beautiful bike but its got a problem. While Im peddling everything seems fine (except for working out the gears LOL) but as soon as I stop peddling the chain drops seriously slack and either derails or gets stuck between the tyre and the frame...
