If the police search a home and it is later determined that they did not have probable cause and the case gets thrown out, do they have to pay for the items/property that they broke during the initial search?

I bought an ipad 2 brand new as a Christmas gift and somebody stole it from my car. Is it traceable? Just so you know, I DID have my car locked. I own a Jeep and they just cut the windows to get in. Is there a tracking device in the new Ipad 2's?
