It very well could be a snail. They may have had that in the tank to help clean up algae and other waste that is left behind by the other fish. I would keep it in your tank because it will do the same for you.

You'll want to ground the generator into the ground with a metal stake and a copper wire hooked up to the ground. thats what we always do and we haven't had problems.
