The fish is dead - there is no more being humane once the animal has already died. It can't feel pain anymore, so being humane is non applicable. If you just don't like the idea of flushing, other options include putting it in the trash, burying it in the yard, or just tossing it into the yard...

I must say I love Gouramis. So many really pretty ones. My fav fish is the red tailed shark and I agree, bettas are very pretty
