It's easiest to learn to ride on a small bike like a 250cc Honda Rebel. In a year or so of riding, you can trade up to a larger bike. Size matters less with experience.

There's no such thing as a girl's bike. If you are so worried about what others think, then maybe you shouldn't ride.

Go with the Shadow. The V-Stars are designed for shorter riders. I know guys your size that feel cramped on the 1100cc. But then again you could put forward control and ape hangers on the V-Star for more comfort. Any of those bikes in that range would be ok for a beginner. Go to the dealerships...
