You can simply put in a pot juice and all and heat to boiling and then serve. I usually drain off most of the liquid and sometimes all depending how it smells to me and then i add water and chicken bullion, maybe some butter and then the seasoning of my choice.
For peas i would just drain some...
A rice like Basmati or Jassmati is usually not enriched so the vitamins are natural so they can not be rinsed away. Its a good idea to rinse first to get excess starch out and secondly to inspect for any matter that should not be there.
