The civic will last 250k miles or more if you do the proper maintenance on it. Offer $3500 on it, but $4000 is a fair deal i think for a relatively young civic.
The new priuses are in high demand, so the dealers won't have any problems finding buyers. If the salesman here is being rude towards you, head out to another Toyota Dealer. There are plenty around, and a dealer that doesn't respect you doesn't deserve your business.

whoever said honda is more reliable doesn't know what he's talking about. All 3 Japanese car makers (Nissan, Honda, Toyota) have quality cars.
Hondas have crappy automatic transmissions though. I've changed my transmission on my Odyssey 2 times. The van only has 69k miles....
