If you can write, you can come up with your own ideas. Why would people GIVE you something as precious and as personal as their ideas?
Start making notes about things. Make notes of things you find interesting, of people you see who you wonder about later, of stories you hear on the news that...
I think her writing is dreadful. As for why she keeps writing about the same thing? Well, it's sold her a lot of books so far hasn't it? And it's pretty much all there is to her books to make people talk about them.

This rings a bell, I'm fairly sure I've read this, years ago, but I might not be right.
I think it's by Philip K Dick, but I just can't grasp the title. I think the boy was called something like Caelob, or Callum... something like that.
