what is the prize besides the prestige and pride of having the label of this award? anything?

I am a fiction writer and haven't published any work yet. I am working on a fiction novel and am wondering if I should go with a big publishing company or small? how do I get an agent? is it possible for first time writers to make over a million dollars? any help would be great.
