Change your dial to Aperture Priority [AV] mode if you have it and set the aperture to 2.8 or as low as open as it can go. Then get close to your subject, focus on it, and take a picture. The background should be blurred put :]

Oh wow I've never actually thought of this, it does seem odd to just chuck them :/ You could make a collage then post it somewhere. Sadly photos are not recyclable. You could always make them into playing cards if they're small and you have enough!

It's because of the file type you're saving it, it's creating all those little artifacts, I believe that's what they're called. You can erase them or color over them there's no other way to get them off :/ It happens when you save it as a jpg. If you save it as a bmp and then finish it in...
