Looking to buy one at Best Buy but am seeing things like G and N described. I want to connect wirelessly to my wireless router in my bedroom to my PC in my living room. Which should I buy or does it matter?

I'm thinking I may be able to save a bit on getting a used phone. Does it NEED to be unlocked for me to use it if I find one? Seeing a lot of people saying they used once or got it as a gift. Doubt they'll be all unlocked....right?
