The screen won't work, keeps locking itself (I can't unlock it), can't turn it off because screen is locked, took out battery, but no effect, starts up fine, screen still locked. Can't take it back to store due to it being a gift, is there any way I can sort it out?

Frozen screen, locks itself (so i cant unlock it), can't turn it off cos it's locked, took out battery but it didn't help. I can't take it back to a store, it's from abroad.
