Just bored, so though I would ask. If the short excerpts were beginnings to novels, which would you be most inclined to read (please list from first to last) oh and bearing in mind that the excerpts have been edited according to comments...

Seems like a simple question enough :) It can be your favourite author, and would probably make sense to be your favourite author, but it can also an author who you think has made a tremendous achievement of some sort :) And why have you picked this author?

Try not to begin with narrative introduction, where it begins with facts about the protagonist/antagonist, e.g. 'Shelley was thirty-four' - these facts can be put in a more interesting way later, e.g. dialogue.
Dialogue is a way to start, and for more opinions on it here's a question on...
People who interested in the subject, want to know more, depending on the subject they would have audiences.
Horrible Histories - targeted and children/teens
Autobios - Most often adults
In-depth studies (e.g. Psychology) - Elder students/adults
