Not to talk too much about the elephant in the room but if you are on such a tight budget that you can't fork over for decent tires (the most important piece of safety equipment on the car) then why are you driving a Lincoln LS?

If you want to "save money" then keep the car you have. The difference between the value of your old Mazda and the cost of the Prius is so much higher that you will save orders-of-magnitude more money by keeping your old car. Let's say your Mazda gets 30 mpg average and you drive 10k miles...
