It sounds like an electrical problem in the transmission, I doubt it was related to the little accident you had. Take it to a good transmission shop and have them use their diagnostic scanner on the car.

I am thinking it's either the IAC (Idle Air Control) valve that's bad, or less likely the torque converter clutch isn't unlocking. I would have the IAC checked out first.
