Should i sand off the original design or just paint straight over it? And what type of paint should i use? Is spray paint ok??

If anyone knows of any tutorials please share them! I want to make a small interactive photo slideshow that i can put on a flash cs3 website - by interactive i mean the user can click next and previous. Thanks! Its for school.. so pretty basic :)
