if i jailbreak an iphone, will i be able to use it on my sprint plan?

If i buy an Iphone from one of my friends, could i just buy a sprint sim card and put it in that iphone and would it be good to go? as in text, call, send pics, all that stuff. ORRR would i have to jailbreak the iphone? tell me all i need to do just to get the iphone to work on my sprint plan
