Anyone know where/if the release button/lever is on a 2004 mazda 6 hatchback? I looked all around the driver's side and can't find it :-(

There is a grey piece directly behind the light. I turned it counterclockwise, but that's all it moved. I tried to pull it directly back, but it still doesn't budge. Should I pull harder? I don't want to break anything. Is there something else I have got to loosen?
