    Could a technical civilization of Elephant kind have evolved previous to mankind?

    Could a lineage of elephants have evolved say 5 million yrs ago, which then inturn became a technical race? i chose elephants because they have a prehensile trunk for manipulating objects and have giant brains and so on,
