I doubt a USB of 8GB would suffice for a 60, to 80,000 word novel. I am writing my book on my desktop which has sufficient hard drive, but even with anti-virus, my PC has gone down and i have lost everything on it. I want a good back up in case this happens again. I am saving my work to disc...
