Do the radio and lights work before you try to start it? It sounds like it could be loose battery cables. Check to make sure they're tightened down. Most cars have a fusible link between the battery and the electrical system; you might check that as well.

They are supposed to be giving Hummer the axe before long. I'm unsure of exactly when, but I imagine they will still be manufacturing autos until then.
