    how can you tell if an alternator is bad on a 1988 ford thunderbird?

    my car was running fine and the battery all of sudden went dead. when you disconnect a battery cable is the car suppose to turn off?

    `my boyfriend changed the waterpunp on my 1988 ford thunderbird now the transmission...

    ...is nt shifting right? he also had to take off the alternator and radiator to get to waterpump
