    Replacing a bike chain ( knowing correct length)?

    I lost my bike chain ( going downhill it snapped and fell off in the dark) so I didn't go back to get it, just freewheeled home.     I want to buy a new hybrid bike. Any personal reccomendations for a fast bike?

    Ive got a road racer but with the state of the roads I want to go with something a little sturdier however almost as fast as a racer? If anyone has a bike they could reccomend £500 and below thanks
