I think a re-install is a waste of time. What Cellular-Decay has described to you is downloading voice with street names from the phone. You seem to have only tried downloading from PC side. The PC side map loaders don't show the voice with street names.

I also remember from some of the early prototype videos that the landscape virtual keyboard would stay open even when the hardware QWERTY slide was opened. Perhaps they disabled it just to keep it looking consistent for all the shows and instead of figuring out how to manage its behavior working...
1) No, it is not stable. You will get plenty of low memory warnings if you do multi tasking
2) Not better. N97 may be more stable as Nokia tweaked the OS with FW updates.
