How would you determine your latitude on Earth from the SHAPE of the first quarter moon? Thanks!

When we show a first quarter moon in textbooks, the division between the dark and light bit looks like a nice straight vertical line. But when we look at the moon, it seems to have fallen over. Why is this?

What would you see if you looked at a first quarter moon when you are a) on the equator, b) on the north pole? Thanks!
