it depends on what type of bike you have if its like a mongoose from walmart go ahead but if you have a good top of the line bike like red line or haro im assuming its bmx then no take it somewhere and pay for it plus some metals like alumenum are hard to paint and take many coats

i heard they come mostly pre assembled if ur friend has done it before i would let him do it because i think all u have to do is assemble the forks and stem and put on the front rim and the seat but if it is not put together have a bike shop do it because its tricky i don't know how much it will...
