i need to make a brochure for my class, i dont have microsoft word installed on my computer. what can i download for free that i can make brochures on?

I have a JVC TV that has a dark screen, by that I mean that when I watch TV it's too dark like there's not enough brightness. I turned the brightness all the way up and it's still too dark! What's wrong with my TV? Can someone tell me how to fix this?
