I use the Nokia suite, but I also use Anvil Studio, which allows you to actually view and delete channels, and isolate them so that you can pick apart a midi and get the channels you need to make your ringtone sound right.

How many channels does the midi file have? I often use Anvil Studio to delete/combine channels when I am doing midi. If there are too many channels, the midi will not play on the phone.
