    PHOTOSHOP CS4- will not show the individual layers (OPEN, will be explained better)?

    in photoshop usually it displays a small image of what is on each layer and you can click which one you want to select, but all of a sudden mine isn't displaying that. its just got nothing in the little side menu. it makes it hard working with layers. please help. that would be amazing :)
