    How is a hernia test done?

    I'm 14 (almost 15) and I'm joining the AAFC (Australian Airforce Cadets). I have to go through ultrasounds and full physicals and on the paper is says the doctor will have to check if something called hernia is present. What is it and how is the test done? Also why is it "embarrassing'?
