What traits do you need to have to be a protester?

While playing Harvest Moon: Island of Happiness the top(I am pretty sure.) screen flickered black. It didn't mess up my game and I believe it is a game glitch, not a problem with my ds. This has happened a few times. What could it be? Is it a DS problem or a game problem?
