Monster 696 vs. Hypermotard 1100

I can think of a lot of really cool things to say about the hyper, but "comfortable" isn't one of them. What a fun bike though, enough power for two up and some, but not comfortable for any extended seat time. I believe that comfort is improved by adding the DP seat. Personally, I'd like both but if I was looking for something to haul the missus around on, I'd choose the 696; comfortable for extended rides, good looking and the extra dosh could see some pretty cool things find their way into the mix in the way of accesrories. My 2cents, I'd go the 696 route. If you can get both...

I'd get the 1100 Monster when it comes out.. looks like the 696 wish the SS swing arm.. But the engine of the HM.. I have a 696.. and stepping down from the 848 makes it feel like a Toy.. I could only imagine what it would feel like going down from a 1098..

How about a Sport Classic like the GT1000.
It can carry both of you and with the side bags, even a nice weekend jaunt somewhere. I demo'd one and its got the power and looks as well as handling for two. Very comfy seat and also for the passenger.
Then you also have the Multistrada.
My buddy demo'd the 696 at the same time and though liked it, was disappointed about the lack of power. He just came of the S4RS Tri.

The other advantage of the 696 besides the MPG and the MSRP over the hyper, is that maybe one day the missus will learn to ride it and then you can each ride, you on the 1098 and her on the 696. It would make a cool bike to learn on too. Now that we are throwing other bikes into the mix, I've looked closely at the Aprilia Dorsoduro as a possible substitute for the hyper. Is that terrible? Like being disloyal??

Lot's of good bikes out there now to choose from. To narrow it down a little, what, besides two up, are you looking for? Two up for long distance? Sport touring? Ability to carry stuff, comfy and handle? Cruiser out of the question? Like dual sport styling? Any brands you wouldn't consider? Price range? Also, as others have pointed out, might the bike chosen end up being a "starter bike" for your girl to end up learning and riding with you on?

Personally, not that it matters, If Ducati came out with a new ST with the 1098 engine, I think I'd be there seriously thinking of trading in a BMW K1200S.

not to hijack this tread but KarlG, keep your K12S. I regret getting rid of my '06 bumblebee. It compliments the 1098 nicely.
