My new to me black denim 09 EGS has a scratch on the rear fender, I also want to add a SG rear filler panel.

I stopped by the painter that I want to use and he tells me that he can get the black denim but doesnt know how to match the clearcoat.

I can probley take out a second on the house and get the clearcoat from HD, but Im hoping someone has figured out a way to replicate it.

Anyone?

Ask him to do a few "sprayouts" using different amounts of matte paste marking each one with the amount and compare the samples to your original. My buddy had the same problem and that's what our painter had to do, AFTER spraying the wrong sheen first. DOH!!! Good luck!

According to www.colorrite.com I don't think you use a base/clearcoat...

Paint systems will have the clear coat recommendations with the formula in the "notes" section.
In this case they all have a pre-mixed flat clear available in quarts. But have a hardener and reducer that is mixed with it.
Side note: Flat clears cannot be buffed as they increase gloss as you sand or buff away the flattners. (Flattners migrate to the surface as it flashes)
Another side note: I think it would be kinda cool to clear with a soft touch clear. It is a flat clear that feels like velvet.

Just stop by the parts counter at your local dealership and order the SG filler panel in black denim if the SG was offered in that color--list price will be about $100; use the parts book to see what other parts you will need, e.g. tri-bar LED light, etc.
