J&M 7.25 Speaker Review

Ivan, I'm sure John can and will take care of you and so would we. Since there are three devices in the chain we need to determine what one is culprit. Yesterday I had asked you to connect the speakers to the stock stereo to bypass the amp to see if the amp was bad. This would tell you if the speakers are gone or the deck and maybe amp. Not sure if you did this or not before the post as you have not contacted me back?

Regarding the mention of the B2017 code, this was never mentioned yesterday. Did some research on the forum and it sounds like there has been a few decks replaced under warranty over this. It means there is a bad connection and as mentioned, there have been some posts about getting the deck replaced under warranty.

A quick test to see if it's the deck is to simply connect the stock speakers back to the deck and bypass the amp. If the stock speakers work, then you know it may be the J&M's and or bad wiring. If they don't work, you know it's the deck and or bad wiring.

Once we find out what is actually causing the issue, we can work to get it fixed.

Terry thanks for your help, myself and someone else did figure that it is the deck unit (HARMON/KARDON) and yes you are correct the unit is under warranty the problem is that when you get another unit the same thing is gonna happen, the J&M Speakers vibration is to powerful for the stock unit and something on the inside of the unit (HARMON/KARDON) needs to be upgraded so that the problem does not occur again with these upgraded SPEAKERS and AMP so now it is gonna cost me another 250.00 dollars to get the unit repaired the correct way which i am really not happy about. It is going to IRONCROSSAUDIO for this upgrade, i spoke to tony from IRONCROSSAUDIO and he explained to me the situation, the only upside to this is that the turn around time is only 2 days versus 4-5 weeks on the warranty and atleast the problem will never come back, i have no clue if J&M knows this, if they don't then after reading this theynow do. When IRONCROSSAUDIO finishes with my radio i will let you know the parts he replaced as i will look at the receipt. For others that read this thread and this happens to you atleast they can more or less know the cause and go from there. Either way i am now out 250.00 dollars, yes the warranty would be free but the problem would not be fixed correctly for these powerful upgraded speakers and amp. I will say that customer service by you and J&M are simply top notch. Again thank you and will keep everyone here posted.

ROCKERCLOVER ,,,,

Please take no offense but I am suspect at your troubleshooting ,,,,,,

I do not think your problem is the HK radio ,,,, it might turn out to be an "old-wives-tale" that the increased speaker vibration with the J&M speakers is causing a problem with the HK radio ,,,,

Please follow Phat Terry's advice, and plug the stock speaker wiring harness, directly to the speakers, (bypassing the amp) to see if maybe the amp's fuse blew or something ,,,,,

if that does not work, plug at least one of your old stock speakers into the same stock wiring harness off the radio, to see if it plays ,,,,,

also ,,,,,, please give me some additional info ,,,,

who installed the J&M speakers for you ? ,,, who installed the J&M amp ? ,,,,,,,

were there any adjustments made to the gain or bass boost settings, from the way you received the amp from J&M ? ,,,,,

did you turn your Harley radio AVC (auto volume control) off or leave it on since installing the J&M speakers/amp ? ,,,,

I'm with John and not sure I believe the speakers could cause a issue with the stock head unit either. Some of the others that have had similar errors codes seem to of had stock systems. I'm confident the motor and road vibrations are gonna be significantly more violent and troublesome than the vibrations the speakers put out. For instance the fairings mounting brackets are well known to fail from the motor and/road vibrations. I highly doubt the J&M speakers could cause the fairing brackets to fail. You've only used the J&M system for 2 months, think about 1-10 years of road use and the vibrations the bike gets from the road and motor and big pot hole hits. Just doesn't seem the correct answer to me. A simple comparison as well, with your motor off, turn on the stereo as loud as you'de listen to it. Now turn on the motor. Which is causing more vibrations, the motor or the stereo? All that said, if it does turn out to be defective head unit, I'd go warranty before spending $250 unless down time is the only concern.

Additionally have you tried connecting the stock stereo output wires to the stock speakers yet to make sure the deck is 100% bad? You don't even have to mount them, just hold them in your hand while touching the speaker wires to the speaker terminals. Very simple test.

Terry i will give you a call later, the HK unit has been fixed i will also explain why i did not want to go the warranty route, again thanks in advance....and most important thanks IRONCROSSAUDIO, they know these HK units inside out and repaired over night and were prompt with getting my unit up and running and fixed the correct way.

Iron Cross hooked up our radio's with ipod jacks on the back so they will charge when plugged in and changed the color of our lights. Great vendor. Thanks!

Drew

Glad to hear you have everything worked out. I'm currently at Lake Mead on a mini vacation this weekend so I won't be online as much as normal. I'll be back in the office on Monday for business as usual though. Please do call or email me, I'm interested to learn what was done.

Ordered the 7.25 J&M speakers and amp from Dr.V-twin on Friday and should receive them by Thursday.

Shawn, I haven't received the email confirmation that they shipped and the tracking number.

Just finnished the 7.25" speakers install yesterday and got a chance to test them out in all type of conditions. First of all they were a breeze to install. The directions were easy to follow and I was complete in less than an hour. I did not purchase the amp yet and not sure if I really need to. Once I made the proper adjustments to the intercom and AVC along with the bass and treble settings per the suggested settings from this forum, they came alive. I was ready to pull the plug on a calmer exhaust (currently Rinehart tru-duals installed), but at 70mph+ the music is clear and I have plenty of volume left. Now all I hear is clean music and no more exhaust roar at cruising speed.
