J&M 7.25 Speaker Review

Same issue with the wires. When looking closer, doesn't appear to be quality control, rather the actual design. I don't like it but I installed just the same. I did pull them back off the next night (had to drill for the fairing bracket repair) and noticed it does leave an indent on the tweeter wires. I am assuming (never a good thing) that when all snugged down, no rubbing or slicing will happen (no movement).

I am confused about the wire routing issue. You guys didn't try to run your wires in between the mounting bracket and speakers, did you?

Why not just run the wires through the four inch or so diameter opening right down the center?

Got to get out for about a 30 miles ride today. Still a little cold, but sunny day. I did a little testing on my new speakers.

First of all, I used to notice that with my stock speakers, even at full volume, when I turned out of my driveway and cranked full throttle and shifted around 5,500 rpms to get up up to speed, the radio was drowned out from bike. As soon as I backed rpms down to the 3,000 rpm range to cruise, radio was back as the dominant sound.

Just for fun, I cranked the volume all the way up on a Rolling Stones tune. At a dead stop, I dumped the clutch, kept throttle open till shifting at 5,500 rpms all the way up to 100 mph.

Radio was never completely drowned out, but hard to hear clearly at 5,500 rpms with my v&h ovals and true duals.

Then I hopped on a state highway and set the cruise at 3,000 rpms, which is my preferred cruise rpm. My music sounded great and was plenty loud at less than half volume.

So far, very good. I got what I was looking for with these speakers. I will admit however that I am not a sound quality freak. I am sure there are better products out there, but for the price, ease of installation and results I have seen so far in the first 30 miles, I am satisfied.

Shawn, I very well may have the wires crossed. Do you happen to recall which goes where? I lost my instructions with the diagram. I just changed them so that the 2 inner connections on the speakers are connected to the tweeter/mid and the factory wires are connected to the two outer connections. Seems to sound better...but would like to verify. Thanks!!

rochkes,
the tweeter and midrange are molded into the grill ( i know you know this ), with the wires (when properly installed according to directions) facing to the stereo. The grill has two indents (on the outside edge) for the upper and lower wires..great, BUT on the inside where the spacer meets the grill, the spacer makes contact with the wires. I verified the grill and the spacer holes line up correctly.
I verified my installation, and that it was done by their (J&M) instructions. I will trust they built a good product and if it has issues, will stand behind it.
Fairing went on last night, still sound great and look forward to riding tomorrow morning!

Everyone says they are great and i hope so. I bought mine from DR V twin and haven't put them in yet. I looked them over and noticed one of them is far from flat on the surface you screw to the mounting area and the center cone is not glued in the center of the speaker. Someone is making a pile of cash with these speakers cause they are far from expensive speakers. Well its lifetime replacement for the original owner on these speakers so who cares if one shits. Not that good quality looking close at them.

I got to say it, they ROCK!
My wife said she heard the music at the end of the block as I drove away;
My buddy I was riding with, heard them riding down the highway;
I heard them at any speed up to 70mph;
And they sounded GREAT!
What kind of music you ask? all of it, Doobie Brothers, Lynard Skynard, Waylan Jennings, Flo-Rida, The Fray, AC/DC, etc..... It all sounded great and i am very happy with my purchase.

I too have jumped in and purchased these speakers. Here are my thoughts.

1. Very light no magnet weight appear to be cheap.

2. They seem very over priced to me.

3. Very easy install plug and play a plus.

4. I do not have the outer fairing installed yet so it is hard to tell but the sound quality thus far is very poor. They are somewhat loud but seem to distort early to me.

I will ride with them for a couple hundred of miles before I draw my final conclusion but so far I'm thinking I could have gotten a much nicer 6.5 with adapter rings for less, time will tell.
