New Cricket BYOD Policy?

So word out in Rochester is that Cricket will now be switching everyone with a BYOD (flashed phone) to the $55 plan as of today. From what I was told this will be done manually so may take a while to reach you.

Please if any of the dealers out there can shed some light on this that would be great. If it goes up $15 per month looks like it will be back to PagePlus :o

thats retarted... i'm gonnna switch to one of crickets new touch phones as soon as they get them anyways so i'll be paying that much anyways! :)

I don't think they can legally just change people to a higher priced plan. If they are doing this that is just stupid customer service wise. They could require from now on that if you BYOD and want data that you need the $55 plan.

Wait isn't the $55 plan the Android plan?

This is Cricket though, they kind of do what they want lol.

I have access to change my device, but as far as I am away it will still show up as customer provided equipment as the MEID does not show up in their DB correctly.

Well ya they legally can do whatever they want, but they can't legally change your rate plan without telling you. if they do this at all which doesn't sound like cricket to me, then they'll let you know that if you want to continue using your device then you will have to get this certain plan, otherwise they'll let your month run out and just cancel you if you don't do anything about it.... but this doesn't sound like cricket to me at all....

They can. You have no legally binding agreement with Cricket. If they changed your plan, you could simply refuse to pay it and walk away. You couldn't even complain that you purchased a device that's subsidy locked to Cricket. If they couldn't do this legally, you'd have grounds to sue them. What law would they be breakng? None.

no, no one its switching your account to a higher rate plan, the thing is if you add a phone and you have the old rate plans YOU MUST SWITCH all of them to the new "true rate plans", if you want to avoid this new switch just open a new account with a dif p#.

Just to clear some things up,
Legally they can not switch your plan with out prior notice, just because you have not signed and agreement does not give cricket the authority to view, enter, change, remove, or modify anything on the current plan you have.. This follows under the privacy act. If they enter your account with out your knowledge and remove or update your features or settings, you do have a legal stand point.

They have the right to drop you as a customer, this technically doesn't follow under any privacy act. They also have the right to notify you with in a certain time frame that alterations to your account will be made and you have the right to either switch it on your own, let them do it, or change services.

Though if i remember right cricket did reserve the right to change things with out notice, and you agree to this when you sign up for a plan with them..
So then again. You really dont have much to argue with.

but if you can prove that someone physically entered in your account to make the alterations you could in fact have a legal stand point based on the privacy act.

Who knows who cares... I dont practice law... I eat my breakfast and move on with my day... Unlike WS.SIXXX he eats women for the day and moves on with the night.

ok i have 2 $40 1 $30 plan. Now my dad only has talk and text but it is a flashed phone. Would hate to have my bill go any higher than it already is. In rochester as well
