Well, it won:

-Best Picture
-Best Director (Clint Eastwood)
-Best Supporting Actor (Morgan Freeman)
-Best Actress (Hilary Swank)

E! Showed Clint Eastwood's back stage press interview and one of the reporters mentioned a very interesting and relevant thing:

Hollywood is a town dominated and obsessed with youth and youth culture. However, the movie that won BP, BD and BSA consisted of people old enough to collect Social Security. What kind of message does this send to the industry as a whole?

Clint answered in a joking manner that the AARP is going to start taking over. What he meant was that it IS significant in that this is an adult film, made for adults and by adults and that IS very rare in Hollywood these days. It should also be noted that Clint wasn't being antagonistic toward young directors/young talent either. He cited he likes Alexander Payne's work and a lot of the up-and-coming talent... But his main point is that studios always go the "safe" route by trying to cater to the youth market and they have arbitrarily alienated a huge segment of not only within the industry itself, but the movie-going public as well.

I agree.

I think he hit the nail on the head because as someone who is not 15, or even 25... I find very little that interests me at the movies these days... And I've actually worked IN this business... But as I get older, I don't find a lot of the stories coming out of Hollywood that interesting, or engrossing because it is the same old thing over and over again.

It's either the sappy, predictable romantic comedy that is geared toward the teenage girl... Or it is the kill'em all action-movie that is geared toward the 14 year old guy. Or worse yet, it's the dumbed down, PG-13 horror/thriller that has been watered down to appeal to a broader market, thus making it a "kids" movie no matter how you slice it.

Basically, I found the comment that reporter made and the response Clint gave with regard to MDB, its subject matter and who made it (and who it is for) very relevant to my own feelings on the matter and it will be interesting to see if MDB really does have a lasting effect on Hollywood to see if we will start seeing more "adult" films.

I guess this is sort of spoilerish, not really but I'll warn you anyways.

I liked the movie UP until the end. To me it didn't fit with her character. I know they tried to spin it off so that she was being "strong" and that it was that she had already met her goals but to me it came off as selfish. Ok, so you met your goal, is that it? The end, just give up? I thought she was someone who was always going against the odds and persevering and working hard. I felt like she just gave up. Just my opinion but I felt the ending ruined the movie for me. Otherwise it was a great movie; good story and well-made, but the ending just left me with a very sour note.

I rented this movie last night and it's really good. The chemistry and the performance was amazing. It was amazing.

I didn't think I would really like this movie before I saw it, because I, too, thought it was pretty much all about boxing. But it's just not, at all, which is why I love it. It's a really wonderful movie.

I'm hoping it wins best picture. I liked The Aviator too, but it was too long and didn't flow as well. Million Dollar Baby will be the first winner in a while that I really liked if it does.

Yeah I know.. it was just so great. I'm going to buy the DVD because as I told my mom last night, this is like a life-changing movie or something. It made me think so much about a lot of things.

Thanks for the heads up! That's great news! :glow:

A lot of the critics are predicting M$B to take home Best Picture. It seems almost too good to be true that a film I love could walk away with Best Picture so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

The Oscar's are on Sunday!

Just watched it..................................

I can't even begin to think how would I describe how I felt watching it. I can't. What a gem..

I hated Mystic River with a passion so this caught me by surprise. Man!

Million Dollar Baby has been nominated for 4 FanForum Movie Awards:

Best Picture
Best Director
Best Actress (Hilary Swank)
Best Supporting Actor (Morgan Freeman)

I'm thrilled that Clint got the DGA! That's huge for him and well-deserved! Before the Globes, the Oscar seemed like it could go to no one but Scorsese but Clint has really moved ahead in this race. His work is phenomenal and I could think of nobody else who is more deserving this year.

this just in....from imdb.com....today's date...

Clint Eastwood KO's Directors Guild

In something of a surprise victory, Clint Eastwood took home the Directors Guild award this weekend for the up-and-coming boxing drama Million Dollar Baby. It was the strong signifier that Baby, which just opened wide this weekend on the heels of seven Oscar nominations, is becoming a force to be reckoned with at this year's Academy Awards, where it's up for Best Picture, Actor, Actress, and Director among others. It was also the first major stumbling block for Martin Scorsese, whose The Aviator, with 11 Oscar nominations, is considered by many to be the movie to beat this year. Most everyone was considering this year to be the one for Scorsese, who has yet to win an Academy Award, and his surprise DGA loss puts a damper on the upcoming fortunes for The Aviator this awards season. While the DGA isn't a 100% reliable predictor, it's a pretty darn accurate barometer of who's going to win the Best Director Oscar, as only six of its past 56 winners haven't gone on to take home the Academy Award. Adding insult to injury, Scorsese has been nominated for the DGA award six times but has never won; Eastwood has been nominated three times, and won previously for Unforgiven.

It took me a few minutes to find this but anyway, I had to find it because I just have to say that this movie is absolutely amazing. It's haunting and it has touched me so much, I can't even begin to describe it.

I had never heard of this film before i went to see it so i didnt kno what to expect but the film was great. I thought i knew what was gona happen then they shocked me right at the end

The whole tiime I was jsut like "are you kidding me!" The movie was so well done. Great acting, story, writing, good. I liked it a lot and man...the crying. I think Hilary Swank deserves her Oscar. She was great.

I was also a fan girl. I was watching with my boyfriend and my best friend and they couldn't care less who wins what award. But When Morgan Freeman's name was announced, I almost got up from my chair, I took a deep breath and I smiled. They looked weird at me. That's when I noticed I had to control myself.

I love Clint's style because it reminds me of the great ones: John Ford and Howard Hawks. It's a classical style. It's not flashy, it's sober and simple. And I love that simplicity. It's a style that doesn't seek attention, it serves the story and the characters.
