Nokia 6300 BT Issues

I just picked up a Nokia 6300 and I noticed that it sounds nasty when connected to a Plantronics 330. The headset is OK but to the person on the other end the sound is choppy and garbled. This headset works great with my 2 Samsungs. What's up?

Also how do I check my firmware version. Do I use a USB to mini USB 1 or 2 cable?
